Go Tell It on the Mountain (SATB, Piano, Violin, Cello + Organ & Congregation)

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of them that bring good tidings, that publish peace; that bring good tidings of good, that publish salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” – Isaiah 52:7

Go Tell It on the Mountain is a unique Christmas song. Its roots are not from Europe, like many of our traditional holiday songs, but from enslaved African Americans, who longed for freedom and embraced the Gospel message of deliverance through Jesus Christ. While it celebrates the birth of the Savior, the bigger message for us is to spread the news: “Go Tell It … everywhere … that Jesus Christ is born!”

This has been the most challenging arrangement I’ve attempted so far, and it’s taken months of refining, writer’s block, and help from many trusted musicians. I love the original version of this song and how it makes you want to get up and clap, but for this arrangement I wanted to give it an epic sound and feel. I hope you (and your congregation) enjoy it!
